To date, no study has investigated how many independent evolutions of fangs have occurred across ray-finned fishes. Her research addresses this question by focusing on a robust hypothesis of relationships among families of ray-finned fishes to reconstruct the character evolution of fangs. Emily has presented the results of her work at the Joint Meeting of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists, and has been awarded over $3,000 in intramural funding to support her work.
